In the music industry, injuries commonly develop as the demands on musicians often exceed their limits. Unhealthy diet, inconsistent or inadequate sleep, and physical and emotional stress are a constant reality for the touring musician. This hectic lifestyle doesn't allow the body adequate time to rest, recharge, and heal. Because the show must go on, painkillers, muscle relaxers, steroids and anti-anxiety medication are often taken to help dull the pain or ease the mind, but they are only a temporary fix. In the morning, the pain commences and the stress begins to set in.

That duration of time when an emotion has gripped you is called an Emotional Refractory Period or ERP, for short. It shifts your perceptual filters to make you focus only on what conforms with your current emotion. It shifts your conscious state of mind, takes away memory access and puts you in a feeling state that could be unresourceful. It’s like falling into an inconspicuous pit. You won’t realise where you are till you are in it. These poses can be done in order since they are in order of flexion and extension.

Stand and lean over slightly, allowing the affected arm to hang down. Swing the arm in a small circle — about a foot in diameter. Perform 10 revolutions in each direction, once a day. As your symptoms improve, increase the diameter of your swing, but never force it. When you're ready for more, increase the stretch by holding a light weight (three to five pounds) in the swinging arm. |
